Licensed Practical Nurse 
PFN Health Services

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Home Care Nurse/Health Director, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will work within the full scope of practice and with other care team members to provide safe, effective, compassionate, quality client and family-centred care to clients.

QUALIFICATIONS

Work Conditions

  • Interacts with clients, family members, community, and multi-disciplinary health team members.

  • Manual dexterity is required to use a desktop computer and peripherals.

  • Extended periods of sitting or standing.

  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds using safe lifting techniques.

  • Local travel.

  • Occasional overtime or requirement to work in the evenings during programming.

  • Visual skills require reading and reviewing documents both in paper and electronic form.

  • May be exposed to infectious diseases, including AIDS, Hepatitis B and COVID-19 viruses.

 

Education

  • Graduate of a recognized post-secondary Licensed Practical Nurse Program.

  • Palliative Care education is an asset.

  • Advanced foot care training and experience preferred.

  • Must be willing to participate in professional development and further educational training.

License/Certification

  • In good standing and active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

  • Must have up-to-date certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider 9BCLS-HCP) or equivalent CPR/AED Level C.

Skills and Abilities

  • Superior interpersonal skills, and effective interactions with clients, families, staff, and supervisor.

  • Possess excellent critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and as a team in a multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Ability to proactively promote the clients’ safety, care and comfort.

  • Must be discreet, respectful of privacy and need for client confidentiality.

 

Preference will be given to applications that possess

  • Previous related experience.

  • Ability to speak/understand the local dialect of Stoney or Cree Language.

  • Knowledge of the people, history, culture, and languages of Paul First Nation is considered an asset.

  • Preference will be given to candidate that are a member of Paul First Nation or that have indigenous ancestry.
