Trauma Informed Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY
The Trauma-Informed Coordinator plans, coordinates and implements culturally competent, non-clinical, trauma-informed support, advocacy and healing programs for youth, adults, and families with complex trauma compounded by pre-existing economic vulnerability, language, racism, and unaddressed prior Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and other traumas. The Trauma-Informed Coordinator uses trauma-informed care expertise to be a resource and support to other programs. Responsibilities may include supervising staff, managing a budget, and serving as a primary liaison with other agencies and service providers to support youth, adults, and families and to share best practices in trauma-informed care.
QUALIFICATIONS

Continuous sitting for prolonged periods.

Visual skills require reading and reviewing documents both in paper and electronic form.

Working in a busy office environment with frequent interruptions.

Interaction with community organizations, health and human service professionals/paraprofessionals.

Interaction with individuals experiencing addictions, mental health issues, homelessness, suicidal ideations, and intravenous drug users.
Education
-
Bachelor's degree required in social work, behavioral health, or related field preferred and registration with a professional college, if applicable. Master's degree is preferred.

Experience working with vulnerable people, providing practical and emotional support from relationship-based, strength-based, and trauma-informed practice

Experience interacting, working within, and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
License/Certification
-
Valid First Aid (with CPR) Certificate or willingness to obtain within three months and maintain as such.

Mental Health First Aid Certificate, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (A.S.I.S.T.) certification, critical incident stress management, and nonviolent crisis intervention training would be assets.

Willingness to participate in on-the-job, on-going training and outside training, e.g., Indigenous Cultural Safety Training.

Skills and Abilities

Up to date on best practices in trauma-informed organizations and trauma-informed care.

Knowledge or experience of community services, programs, resources, and health care delivery systems.

Good understanding of domestic abuse on victims and their children.
-
Understanding of the principles of needs and risk assessment and support planning.

Understanding of child protection issues and legal responsibilities surrounding these issues.
-
Understanding culturally safe care and anti-Indigenous racism initiatives.
-
Awareness and understanding of lateral violence and its impacts.

Conditions of Employment

Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks and maintain as such.

Satisfactory Child Welfare check.

Valid provincial Class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle (or other transport) to meet the needs of the job are required.
