Maternal Child Health Worker

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Health Director and in collaboration with the Community Health Nurse and other health and wellness team members, the Maternal Child Health (MCH) Worker will support family-focused and culturally relevant prevention and education programming and early childhood learning and development for children from birth to age 6 to ensure families have opportunities to increase their ability to effectively care for their children, develop or maintain healthy family dynamics and raise their children in an environment of learning and safety.
QUALIFICATIONS
Work Conditions

Plan, schedule and complete home visits and maintain records of home visits.

Update client care plans regularly with progress reports, family achievements, aftercare notes, etc.

Review family assessment with participant at 3-6 months.

Establish good relations with clients, families, and other team members.
-
Adhere to the Confidentiality policy.
-
Compile statistical information and monthly reports.
-
Collect and prepare data for program reporting and evaluation requirements.
-
Document work with families using appropriate tools, forms, and case notes.

Attending and participating in weekly/biweekly individual supervision with Maternal Child Health Program Advisor, preferably face to face.

Assist clients in setting goals based on their individual needs assessments.

Organize/facilitate group presentation.
Education
-
Post-secondary diploma or degree in a social or health services, early childhood education or related field.
-
Minimum two year’s experience working with young children and families in school, daycare, or other early childhood education environment.

Training in inclusive education and experience with children with special needs.
-
Training in FASD and behavioural is an asset.

Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development.

Demonstrated ability to work with and support parents/guardians in the home.

Prevention, intervention, and crisis intervention skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills to compose reports and charting.

Scheduling and time management skills.

Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office suite (MS Word, Outlook).

Work well as a team and able to collaborate with other to provide programs, activities, and events.

Comfortable discussing reproductive rights and women’s empowerment.

Must be discreet, respectful of privacy and need for client confidentiality.

Location

Paul First Nation (close to Duffield, Alberta) in Treaty 6 Territory.

Travel to surrounding areas will be required to support a regional crisis response and other mental wellness/crisis response teams.
