Crisis Intervention Youth Worker
POSITION SUMMARY
The Crisis Intervention Youth Worker is responsible for assisting children, youth, and young adults in distress, including those affected by mental illness or suicide, by providing crisis intervention, referrals to appropriate services, and support to families, friends and community service providers through education, outreach, and consultation.
Reporting to the Health Director, the Crisis Intervention Youth Work is a key team member of the Paul First Nation’s Regional Mental Wellness Crisis Team that provides outreach support to other communities in Treaties 6, 7, and 8, as needed and collaboratively with other First Nations Crisis Teams in the province.

Occasional fatigue requires periods of rest.

Astuteness to pick up on non-verbal cues.

Practice safety precautions when dealing with potentially aggressive or agitated clients.

Gross and fine motor skill are required to use a desktop computer, operate a mouse, data entry and write detailed reports.

Extended periods of sitting for counselling or standing delivering presentations and workshops.

Drive to other sites or clients’ homes.

Must be able to life, carry, and manage equipment, boxes, and supplies (10lbs).
Education
-
Post-secondary education in Social Work, Nursing, or other relevant degrees (e.g. Psychology) with related work experience will be considered).

1-3 years of direct experience working in crisis/community mental health and addiction settings.
-
Actual life experience and/or lived experience with mental illness or addictions is an asset.
-
Previous related experience is considered a definite asset.
-
Ability to speak/understand the local dialect of Stoney or Cree language is an asset but not a requirement.

Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, if Paul First Nation’s Regional Crisis Team get deployed to another community.

Location

Paul First Nation (close to Duffield, Alberta) in Treaty 6 Territory.

Travel to surrounding areas will be required to support a regional crisis response and other mental wellness/crisis response teams.
