Community-Based Wellness Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of the Community Based Wellness Coordinator is to address the community's health, healing, and wellness concerns by ensuring that quality wellness programs and services are accessible, culturally appropriate, and provide through a Two-Eye Seeing model to promote holistic approaches to promote healthy living and safe communities. This position reports to the Health Director and oversees the Community Mental Health and Addictions (NNADAP) and Community Wellness Worker programs and workers.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Work Conditions

  • Knowledge of the historical factors and trauma relevant to the community's health and wellness challenges.

  • Familiarity with traditional healing practices, customs, values, and traditions.

  • Must know the culture and history of Paul First Nation and Treaty 6 Medicine Chest Clause.

  • Knowledge or experience of community services, programs, resources, and health care delivery systems.

  • Understanding culturally safe care and anti-Indigenous racism initiatives.

  • Awareness and understanding of lateral violence and its impacts.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous health and wellness issues, socioeconomic determinants of health and wellness, cultural safety, and reconciliation.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Calls to Action, the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and MMIWG2S+.

 

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology or other relevant programs of study and registration with a professional college, if applicable.

  • Willingness to participate in on-the-job, on-going training and outside training, e.g., Indigenous Cultural Safety Training.

License/Certification

  • Naloxone training.

  • Valid First Aid (with CPR) Certificate or willingness to obtain within three months and maintain as such.

  • Mental Health First Aid Certificate, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (A.S.I.S.T.) certification, critical incident stress management, and nonviolent crisis intervention training would be assets.

  • Valid provincial driver's license, clear Driver's Abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle (or other transport) to meet the needs of the job are required.

Skills and Attributes

  • Proven exceptional interpersonal skills to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally.

  • Proven ability to develop holistic care plans with the client and ensure a connection with the appropriate resources.

  • Highly skilled at relationship development.

  • Works well in cross-cultural settings.

  • Must have excellent communication and advocacy skills.
